Yiye Sheng

Currently based in Hokkaido / Tokyo, Japan.
I studied painting and drawing in China before working in graphic design and later moving to Japan. After that, I went to a photography school in Tokyo, spending two years working in the darkroom, mainly with colour hand printing and black and white.
After graduating, I worked at a photography studio, where I learned about lighting and the technical side of making an image. It was interesting to learn, but I gradually realised that I’m more drawn to photographs that happen rather than photographs that are set up.
